Talk about Compensation and Personal Protection Earlier in the Process
The first topic that we discussed even before we “interview the interviewers”.
No surprises: ensure that you have an advocate guiding you through the process. A strong recruiting partner will share exhaustive details with the client about the compensation range and obstacles to close before beginning the search.
Companies are not permitted to ask you what you are making. They may however ask how you would define your target compensation or whether you would be willing to share your target compensation.
Only 52% of public companies are accustomed to having the CISO on their D&O policy; please don’t be surprised if you have to justify this for a company. If they haven’t done a search for this particular role in a few years or it is their first time managing this role they will not know that this is becoming a standard; use ours and other surveys to help justify.
Be transparent about advisory roles that you are in, and avoid conflicts of interest.
